A Happy Ending…

HR Risk Mitigation was conducting an employment related background check for a client. And although no adverse information was found, when verifying the applicant’s education, the result returned as “enrolled” with no degree awarded, despite the applicant claiming a bachelor’s degree.

HR Risk Mitigation undertook additional efforts by contacting the school registrar, who confirmed the applicant completed the degree requirements well over six years ago, but a degree was not conferred and only the former student could obtain additional information. The information was shared with the client.

A few months later, the client revealed the applicant had several unpaid campus parking tickets from when she was a student, and the school would not confer the degree until the outstanding parking tickets were paid. After learning of the unpaid parking tickets, the applicant paid them immediately. The client then requested HR Risk Mitigation confirm the degree was recently conferred – well over six years from when the applicant was a student.

The degree was confirmed, and fortunately for the applicant, if she had not paid the campus parking tickets within seven years of receiving them, all her academic credits would have been voided.
